Features
What NuviraHub does today. The app and the base server are free; the Pro modules are for teams and run on your own server.
A look at the app
Real screens of NuviraHub 0.12 with demo data. The app follows your system's light or dark theme, and so do these pictures.

Type an ID, or a name, company or contact: suggestions come from the address book.

Every request shows who is asking and must be accepted, with a warning against phone scams.

Messages and received files show up in the chat, on both sides.

Install it once and reach the computer even when nobody is there. The public server or your own.

Customers and computers grouped by company, with online status and saved passwords.

Roles, two-factor authentication and rules applied to every computer.
Performance
A remote desktop is good when you forget it is remote. These are the techniques NuviraHub uses to keep the delay low, and the numbers we measured.
Direct when possible
The two PCs connect to each other through the routers (hole punching). When they cannot, the server forwards the already encrypted packets; on networks that block UDP they travel inside a WebSocket. Sessions stay end-to-end encrypted.
The image stays on the graphics card
Capture, colour conversion and H.264 encoding happen on the GPU, without going through the processor's memory. If the viewer's window is smaller than the screen, the image is reduced in the same pass: only the pixels you see are encoded. Without a hardware encoder NuviraHub uses OpenH264, chosen with a test at start-up.
It adapts to the network
Every 250 ms the viewer reports how long the frames take to arrive, and the controlled PC lowers or raises the bitrate before a queue builds up. Congestion control is BBR, which copes with the random losses of Wi-Fi and mobile networks.
Always the latest image
No frame waits in a queue: the controlled PC encodes the freshest image as soon as the encoder is free, and the viewer always shows the last one, dropping those already overtaken.
Sharp text on a still screen
When the screen stops changing, the last image is encoded again a few times until the text is sharp; after that almost nothing is sent.
No hidden numbers
The session bar shows frames per second and latency live; the window title adds round-trip time, bandwidth and encoding and decoding times.
Measured numbers
| Network | Frames/s | Median latency | 95th percentile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local network, direct, 1920×1080, Intel Quick Sync | 52 | 27 ms | 40 ms |
| Local network, direct, 1920×1080, NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti | 58 | 16 ms | 25 ms |
| Local network, 4K screen in a 1280×720 window | 40 | 39 ms | 54 ms |
| Local network, through the server's relay | 54 | 28 ms | 38 ms |
How we measured
Screen with a full-screen animation (always changing: the worst case). Quick Sync: controlled PC with an Intel Core i7-10710U, viewer on a laptop with an Intel Core i7-8550U. NVIDIA: controlled PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and an RTX 4060 Ti, viewer on the mini PC with the i7-10710U. Latency runs from the screen capture to the display on the other PC.
Not there yet
With NVIDIA the limit is the 60 frames per second cap we set: the encoder can do many more. AMD cards are used through Windows but we have not measured them yet; hardware decoding in the viewer works, but for now it is slower than software decoding and stays off. We are still working on slow networks and the Internet: we will publish the numbers when they are good.

Coming next
macOS and Linux, remote resolution adapted to the window, more tools without video. The roadmap is public with the source code.
