1. Download and install
On the Download page choose one of the two files:
- nuvira-setup.exe installs NuviraHub with a Start menu entry and unattended access. During the installation it asks for the server (empty: the NuviraHub public server) and the permanent password (empty: one is generated and shown at the end). It is removed from the installed apps in Windows settings.
- nuvira.exe is the same program and runs without installing: right for someone who only needs to receive help.
The program is digitally signed. The first few times Windows SmartScreen may still show a warning: choose More info, then Run anyway.
2. Helping someone
- The person who needs help starts NuviraHub and tells you Your ID and the Temporary password shown on the Connection page.
- You type their ID, press Connect and enter the password.
- Your request appears on their screen: once they accept, you see their desktop.
The temporary password changes every time the app starts; the person can change it at any time with Generate a new password.
3. Unattended access
To reach one of your PCs even when nobody is in front of it, also after a restart.
- With nuvira-setup.exe it is already on: use the permanent password chosen during the installation.
- With nuvira.exe: Settings → Unattended access, choose a permanent password (at least 8 characters; empty: one is generated) and press Install on this computer. A Windows administrator account is needed.
With the permanent password you connect without confirmation; with the temporary one the person at the PC always has to accept.
Install unattended access only on computers you are entitled to manage.
4. During a session
The bar at the top of the session window offers:
- Quality: Balanced, Sharp (crisper text, at most 30 frames per second) or Smooth (less bandwidth, for slow networks).
- Screens: with several monitors choose which one to see, or All.
- Full screen, fit to the window or actual size.
- File manager to copy files in both directions; to send a file quickly, drag it onto the window.
- Chat with the person at the remote computer.
- Ctrl+Alt+Del, for the Windows sign-in screen.
- View only: you watch without sending mouse and keyboard.
The clipboard is shared: text and images copied on one side can be pasted on the other. The person at the remote PC sees who is controlling it and can close the session with End.
5. Address book
- After the first successful connection the PC goes into the Address book by itself, with its password: next time you connect with one click.
- With New entry you add a PC by hand, with name and company; the address book shows which PCs are online.
- The On this computer address book stays on your PC, and the passwords are protected by your Windows account.
- Address books shared between several technicians, with accounts and permissions: with NuviraHub Pro.
6. Your own server
With nothing set, the app uses the free NuviraHub public server. You can use a server of your own, even on a NAS or in the office:
- Start the
nuvira-servercontainer: the compose file is on the Download page, the full instructions on GitHub. - Forward port UDP 21116 (required) and TCP 21116 (for networks that block UDP) on the router.
- In every app: Settings → Server, type the server's name or address and press Save. Empty field: public server.
On the first connection the app remembers the server's certificate, and from then on refuses a different server with the same name. With unattended access installed, changing server asks for an administrator's confirmation and the PC's ID may change.
7. NuviraHub Pro
- Get the licence key: Founders receive it by e-mail and find it again in Your account.
- Use the
ghcr.io/nuvira-hub/nuvira-server-proimage with theNUVIRA_LICENSE_KEYvariable. If you already run the open server, change only the image: PCs, certificate and data stay. - The first administrator is created at the first start with
NUVIRA_ADMIN_USERandNUVIRA_ADMIN_PASSWORD(empty password: one is generated and written once to the log). - Sign in from the app's Address book or from the web console at
http(s)://server:21116/console/. From the Internet the console accepts sign-in over HTTPS only, for example behind a reverse proxy.
What Pro adds: Free and Pro.
8. Updates
- PCs with unattended access update themselves from their server within a few hours, never during a session. Copies that are not installed offer the update.
- With the public server we publish the updates; on a server of your own download
nuvira-update-VERSION.zipfrom the latest release on GitHub and unpack it into itsupdatesfolder (instructions). - Every update is signed, and the app checks it before installing it.
9. If it does not connect
- At the bottom of the other PC's Connection page you should see Ready: reachable with this ID. With Not connected to the server, check the Internet connection and the address in Settings → Server.
- The NuviraHub service is stopped: press Start the service (or Update and start) and confirm Windows' request.
- Wrong password: the temporary password changes every time the app starts, ask for it again.
- On networks that block UDP (companies, hotels) NuviraHub goes through a WebSocket over TCP by itself; if that is blocked too, the network administrator is needed.
- An antivirus blocks the installation or an update: write to us, with the antivirus's name and the message it shows.
